2022
The Decathlon Challenge with an opportunity to complete your events virtually by competing in the Virtual Swim League.
The Masters Decathlon is a true test of versatility and endurance for a Masters swimmer as each person must show they can swim a wide range of events.
How does it work?
To be eligible for consideration, you should complete in all the different stroke events and the distance freestyle and individual medley events. For a full ranking based on 10 events, you must swim in 10 different events and the highest points (using the age adjusted Italian formula) from each of these will be used to calculate your overall score.
Points will be calculated from your top score in EACH of the six stroke groups:
- Freestyle sprint (50m, 100m 200m)
- Freestyle distance (400m, 800m, 1500m)
- Backstroke (50m, 100m 200m)
- Breaststroke (50m, 100m 200m)
- Butterfly (50m, 100m 200m)
- Individual Medley (100m, 200m, 400m)
As well as your second highest score from four of these groups in a different event to your top scores. Points will only count from a maximum of two events from each of the stroke groups.
Each swim you select to be included in the ranking can be either long course or short course but not both for the same event.
The competition runs from January 1st to December 31st annually. This means that you can include any swim completed in that period. Once the year is over, you should select your 10 swims in each of the categories as per the above rules and include the details on the application form by 31st January.
There is no entry fee required.
Prizes will be awarded to the top individual swimmers (male and female) with the most points from the 10 chosen events and presented at the annual Limerick Masters gala dinner. All participants will receive a T-shirt.
