Swim Ireland Masters Decathlon

After the success of the inaugural Swim Ireland Masters Decathlon in 2016, the Irish Masters swimming committee are planning to run it again during 2017. This is a true test of versatility and endurance for a Masters swimmer as each person must show they can swim a wide range of events. So how will it work?

To be eligible for consideration, you should complete in all the different stroke events and the distance freestyle and individual medley events.

For a full ranking based on 10 events, you must swim in 10 different events and the highest points (using the age adjusted Italian formula) from each of these will be used to calculate your overall score.

Points will be calculated from your top score in EACH of the six stroke groups:

  • Freestyle sprint (50m, 100m 200m)
  • Freestyle distance (400m, 800m, 1500m)
  • Backstroke (50m, 100m 200m)
  • Breastroke (50m, 100m 200m)
  • Butterfly (50m, 100m 200m)
  • Individual Medley (100m, 200m, 400m)

And your second highest score from four of these groups in a different event to your top scores. Points will only count from a maximum of two events from each of the stroke groups.

You should calculate your points using the age adjusted Italian formula and include these points on the application form. All claims will be verified by the Swim Ireland Masters committee.

Each swim you select to be included in the ranking can be either long course or short course but not both for the same event.

The competition will run from January 1st 2017 to December 31st 2017. This means that you can include any swim completed in that period. Once the year is over, you should select your 10 best swims in each of the categories as per the above rules and include the details on the application form.

There is no entry fee required.

Prizes will be awarded to the top individual swimmers (male and female) with the most points from the 10 chosen events.

To enter the Decathlon, please complete the application form below and send a signed hard copy for the attention of Aisling McKeever to Swim Ireland, Irish Sports HQ, National Sports Campus, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 on or before close of business on 31st January 2018.
